Hi,
I have a dilemma.. Need to top up my coolant on my 125vt 2005 Shadow (it's on the lower mark). Went to Halfords where they told me to match the colour that's already in the tank (it's blue) - however, the Shadow Owners manual says to not use silicate based coolant as it destroys the water seals.. the blue (I think) contains silicate - based on a google search - It doesn't say on the bottle. Whereas the red (Halfords advanced) is silicate free and seams more suitable.
I'm not sure how to completely drain the coolant system, so would like to avoid this if possible. So, should I put in the Red, or the Blue?
I also read not to mix silicate and non-silicate coolants as they react with each other.
Help appreciated!
Thanks,
VerveMan

Yeah the Halfords stuff is a 50:50 mix. I'm pretty sure the red one is the right one, it matches what the owners manual says should be in it (Ethylene Glycol, for aluminium engines with no silicate). But does that mean the wrong one is already in my coolant system? (Because it's blue and possibly contains silicate) ..
